Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun whose stage name is “ Wizkid” is one of the fastest rising Nigerian music artists, Wizkid having so many contribute of reputable awards winning in his music career has lead him to a great reach in his profession.

1. Started his music career at a tender age.

Wizkid started his music career at  a tender age where he started  singing for his local church, not only a young graded musician but also a talented superstar who sang for his church He actually was a praise and worship singer at his local church in Lagos having been brought up in a Christian family.

Wizkid actually released a couple of albums prior to his breakout track in 2009 after collaborating with M.I. As part of the church choir, he produced an album. He later went on to form a singing group with his five church friends known as “Glorious Five” and released another album.


2.  Wizkid was born on 16 July 1990 in Surulere, a residential and commercial area of Lagos. He grew up in an interfaith household with twelve female siblings. His mother is a Pentecostal Christian and his father practices Islam. In a 2012 radio interview with Tim Westwood , he said that his father has three wives. During his upbringing, he listened to songs recorded by King Sunny Ade , Fela Kuti , and Bob Marley . 


3. Wizkid has a son, Boluwatife Balogun given birth to in 2010. Wizkid’s Baby Mama, Oluwanishola Ogudugu studied at Houdegbe North American University, Cotonou. The genesis of her affair with Wizkid was after he performed at the school, which resulted in a child – Boluwatife. They not together anymore. Wizkid is currently in a relationship with half-caste, Tania Omotayo.

4. Wizkid was a student of Ijebu Ode Grammar School, Ogun state, and dropped out of Lead City University in 2011 into his 3rd Year where he was studying ‘International Relations’.

5.  Wizkid’s first International Collaboration was with Akon on Don’t Dull (Remix). In February 2014, Wizkid became the first ever Nigerian musician to have over 1 million followers on Twitter.

Wizkid owns and controls Star Boy Entertainment, that has over the years produced artistes with very good vocals and applicable lyrical contents.

6.  Wizkid began recording his debut studio album, Superstar , in 2009.  On 2 January 2010, he released ” Holla at Your Boy ” as the album’s lead single.

The song earned him the Next Rated award at The Headies 2011, and was nominated for Best Pop Single at the aforementioned awards show.  The music video for “Holla at Your Boy” was nominated for Most Gifted Newcomer Video at the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards.

It was also nominated for Best Afro Pop Video at the 2011 Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA).  On 2 April 2010.

7.  Wizkid released ” Tease Me/Bad Guys ” as the album’s second single. The song was initially released as a freestyle.  “Don’t Dull “, the album’s third single, was released on 6 December 2010.  The album was recorded in English and Yoruba. It was released on 12 June 2011, by Empire Mates Entertainment. The album incorporates elements of R&B, dancehall, and reggae. Wizkid collaborated with a wide range of music producers, including E-Kelly, Jay Sleek, Shizzi , DJ Klem, Masterkraft, Q-Beats and Samklef. The album features guest appearances from Banky W, Skales , D’Prince and Wande Coal. It was initially scheduled for release on 14 February 2011, but was later pushed back. On 12 June 2011.

8.   Wizkid hosted an album launch party at the Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites. The album’s launch party featured performances from Banky W, Skales , 2face Idibia, Samklef, Wande Coal, D’Prince, Olamide, eLDee, Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince, Lynxxx and Seyi Shay. Superstar garnered Best Album of the Year at the 2012 Nigeria Entertainment Awards, and was nominated for Album of the Year at The Headies 2012 .Change of Stage name

There is so much information out there about Wizkid. Some of it true while some false. One of the most controversial information surrounds his birth date. Some sources claim he was born on 16 July 1989 while other sources state the date as July 16 1990.
